What to Expect
- Your first appointment is an intake session with a therapist to learn about your concerns and goals.
- Then, your provider will develop a plan that includes goals, clinical recommendations, and the types of services they recommend for treatment.
- Depending on your clinical needs, you may see a psychiatrist or psychiatric advanced practice registered nurse. If you receive a prescription, you’ll meet with us regularly to make sure it works well and discuss any side effects.
Specialized Treatment Services
EMDR Therapy for Trauma
If you’ve had a traumatic experience, you may benefit from eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. A therapist guides you through exercises to help your brain resolve the trauma while reducing anxiety, depression, pain and other symptoms.
Psychological Assessment
A psychologist will ask questions and complete an assessment to learn more about you or your child if:
- You’re pursuing bariatric surgery, and the surgical team wants to make sure you’re mentally prepared for this life-changing procedure
- Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is suspected, and the medical provider requires a psychological evaluation before prescribing medication.
NeuroStar TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation)
If you have been diagnosed with MDD (Major Depressive Disorder), and have not experienced relief from antidepressants, NeuroStar TMS may be right for you.
NeuroStar TMS is:
● Non-drug, non-invasive
● FDA-cleared technology
● No common medication side effects
● Covered by most insurance
NeuroStar TMS is an in-office treatment done at St. Bernards Counseling Center, lasting as little as 19 minutes per daily session over the course of 6 weeks. You recline comfortably in a NeuroStar chair (much like a dentist’s chair or spa chair) during treatment. During a treatment session, precisely targeted magnetic pulses stimulate the mood-regulating areas in the brain. There is no anesthesia or sedation. You are fully awake and alert during treatment, and you can resume normal activities immediately after a treatment session.
Proven Depression Relief
● NeuroStar is the #1 physician-recommended TMS treatment, with over 6.1 million treatments performed, in over 169,000 people.
● A study of real-world outcomes reported an 83% response rate which means patients experienced notable relief, and a 62% remission rate which means their depression effectively went away.
● NeuroStar is the only TMS therapy with demonstrated durability in treatment resistant depression patients through one year.
