Reach Out
Take charge of your life. Call 870.930.9090 to make an in-person or virtual appointment at St. Bernards Counseling Center in Jonesboro.
What to Expect
Your first appointment is an intake session to learn about your concerns and goals. A therapist will ask about your background, job, lifestyle, current family situation and other topics. Then, your therapist will recommend a treatment plan, which might involve one or more of these:
- Individual or couples therapy
- Family therapy for people ages 5 and older
- Referral to a psychiatrist or psychologist
Counseling & Talk Therapy
After your intake session, you may meet with a therapist weekly, twice a month, or on another schedule that works for you. The therapist won’t necessarily tell you how to solve a problem, but will:
- Work with you to find ways to address them
- Offer insight into how your way of thinking and acting affects your life
- Help you build coping skills
Psychiatric (Medical) Care
Depending on your treatment plan, you may see a psychiatrist or psychiatric advanced practice registered nurse. This professional will ask about your medical history, symptoms and current health and may order lab tests before deciding whether to prescribe medicine. If you receive a prescription, you’ll meet with us regularly to make sure it works well and discuss any side effects.
EMDR Therapy for Trauma
If you’ve had a traumatic experience, you may benefit from eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. A therapist guides you through exercises to help your brain resolve the trauma while reducing anxiety, depression, pain and other symptoms. You don’t need to talk about distressing memories in detail.
During your intake session (first appointment), tell your therapist if you’re interested in this evidence-based treatment.
Psychological Assessment
A psychologist may ask questions and give you a written survey to fill out to learn more about you or your child, especially if:
We’ll make a follow-up appointment with you after the evaluation to share the results.
