Lab Services

St. Bernards Laboratory Services collect and analyze a variety of biological specimens, such as blood, urine, skin, feces and tissue. Using the latest, state-of-the-art equipment, we provide you with diagnostic testing that helps confirm or rule out conditions and diseases.

Our laboratory services operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week through a highly specialized team that includes:

  • Certified Phlebotomists – medical professionals who gather blood samples for testing
  • Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) – medical professionals who perform complex tests on biological specimens
  • Histology Technicians (HTs) – medical professionals who turn tissue samples into microscope slides
  • Board-Certified Pathologists – physicians (M.D. or D.O.) who study medical conditions identified through biological specimens to diagnose, monitor and provide prognoses of diseases

St. Bernards Laboratory Services received certification by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and The Joint Commission. Our CAP certification has international recognition as a means of demonstrating high-quality laboratory practices and meeting the most comprehensive, scientifically endorsed standards in:

  • Chemistry – biochemical testing of blood and body fluids including toxicology, therapeutic drug monitoring, endocrine/hormone analysis and tumor markers
  • Hematology – evaluates the type, number, and maturity of cells present in blood and body fluids to detect abnormalities and monitor treatment
  • Microbiology – detects microorganisms via culture, staining, biochemical characteristics and PCR testing including susceptibility testing to determine appropriate antibiotics
  • Serology – studies the properties and reactions of serums, such as blood and other bodily fluids
  • Blood Banking – ensures the availability and compatibility of blood products for medical, surgical and emergency needs
  • Histology – tissue processing, embedding, microtomy and immunohistochemistry staining to provide high quality tissue slide preparations for interpretation
  • Pathology – studies the causes and effects of disease or injury

To make sure you can easily get lab tests done regardless of where you live in Northeast Arkansas or Southeast Missouri, we have courier services that regularly pick up samples from different areas in Northeast Arkansas, bringing them to our Reference Lab for processing and testing. While you must bring a written physician’s order and insurance information when obtaining blood work, you do not have to have an appointment.
