Least Invasive Approach
Whenever possible, your surgeon will make only tiny incisions to treat your condition. This approach is called minimally invasive surgery. It might involve:
- Laparoscope – Thin tube with a light and camera that shows the inside of your body and sends the images to a large monitor in the operating room
- Surgical robot – Technology your surgeon controls to perform your procedure in a very precise way
You’ll recover faster, experience less pain and scarring, and have a lower risk of side effects.
Enhanced Recovery After Surgery
St. Bernards staff follow guidelines to help you safely get up and moving again sooner than patients used to be able to after surgery. To shorten your recovery time and reduce the risk of complications, we may:
- Use types of anesthesia (pain prevention) that let your body “wake up” sooner
- Explain how you can improve your nutrition and physical fitness before surgery, so your body heals faster
